Native HDMI on board|||The answer is no.

That card supports PCI-e, unfortunately the motherboard in your PC only supports PCI (which is an older & completely different technology). This card therefor is completely incompatible with your PC.

You can upgrade to an 8400GS mind you, there are a couple of companies that produce them for PCI slots.

What kind of games can this video card handle?

Hello, Im planning to buy a laptop but the only upgrade I can do is

ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3470 with HDMI™ Output

I am not sure if that is a good video card or not.

Anyone know if that is good and what type of games can it support?

ex:can it support Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne (on high settings)? World of Warcraft? CoD4?

How can I display iTunes or MediaPlayer video to my NTSC TV? I have a dual output card......?

My problem is software, I can plug in wires. I'm trying to do this for <$100. I don't have a new TV with HDMI, etc. And I don't want to use a digital media receiver Microsoft is promoting. I don't want to use a scan converter if I can help it - I think the video quality would be poor.

I have an nVidia card with NTSC and VGA output. But there's little mention on their website about how to setup the software with iTunes or mediaplayer.|||So you have an old TV, presumably only with RCA plugs? Then it cannot be done under those contraints. If your TV doesn't have HDMI or VGA, there is no "magic" cable that'll get it working for you. You'd have to get one of those converter boxes or get a new TV.

Best video card or cards to have DVI on monitor, HDMI on HDTV, simultaneously?

I'd like to have DVI on my computer monitor and HDMI going to my HDTV, both running simultaneously, both with independent resolutions. What would also be really nice is if the HDTV output would sleep(ouput switches off until mouse movement) when not in use, so if i'm working on the computer, that output isn't running 24/7.

Can someone recommend the best video card(or cards if I should be using two cards for this) and maybe software(for independent screen sleeping) to do all of this. I don't think Windows 7 is smart enough to sleep only inactive screens(maybe it is with two video cards?). I really like ATI because it has Eyefinity vs Nvidias SLI which needs multiple video cards, but i've also heard ATI sucks compared to Nvidia.|||As previously mentioned, Windows will blank all displays simultaneously, it doesn't consider computer activity tied to any specific screen.

While most Nvidia-based cards only have 2 output ports, there are GTX 460 cards by Zotac which support up to four monitors from a single card (dual DVI plus HDMI and display port)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

ATI (Now AMD) doesn't "suck" compared to Nvidia, I've owned plenty of cards from both companies and overall I find ATI cards provide better image quality- things are simply crisper and cleaner. But others may prefer the way stuff looks running Nvidia cards. It's a matter of preference, you'll need to look at cards side- by side to determine which you prefer. But only Nvidia cards have hardware-level PhysX support, and Nvidia's driver support is better.

*** Update ***

I'm not sure about the HDMI output on non-Eyefinity Radeon cards. In those cases the HDMI output may simply mirror either VGA or DVI output.

On Eyefinity cards the 3rd monitor must be connected via the Display port interface- so in those cases the HDMI port is considered a legacy port along with the VGA and DVI ports. You can connect any two of them, in addition to the display port.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

It's simpler when dealing with Eyefinity cards that only have 3 outputs... they all work, you don't have to figure out which ones are usable. For example, here's a Radeon 5670 with DVI, HDMI and Display port. Each are independent of the others.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

On the Zotac GTX 460 cards I linked earlier, all 4 ports are independent.

http://www.zotac.com/index.php?option=co…|||1) In Windows, video output would go to "sleep" on both displays at the same time or not at all. It's not smart enough to turn off only one screen if you haven't moved the mouse to it for some time. You can, of course, deactivate the unused screen quite simply by switching your output to a single screen mode.

2) Both nVidia and ATI video cards can run dual monitors easily enough. nVidia maxes out at 2, ATI can handle up to 6, depending on the card.

3) What card you need depends on the tasks you want it to handle. A low end card can easily handle showing a movie and a desktop. If you're trying to game, you need much more powerful cards.

4) SLI and Crossfire multiple card setups boost gaming performance to a single monitor only (unless you're using ATI's Eyefinity 3-monitor setup). You can put in multiple non-linked video cards to provide more screens if you wish.

EDIT: all video cards released over the past year support at least two video outputs. After a long and fruitless search, I can find no specific references from nVidia nor AMD about any limitations on which output types are combinable.

Look like it's any 2 out of three (HDMI/DVI/VGA). Most cards now include a dual link DVI port, which can run two monitors by itself.

If you want to go to 3+ monitors, anything beyond the first two must be connected via DisplayPort, either to a DisplayPort equiped monitor, or through a active DP to HDMI/DVI/VGA converter. There are passive converters, but they do NOT work for multiple monitor use.

I have yet to see an explanation of why multiple DVI ports can't be used instead, so I presume that's a nVidia/ATI decision about technical support.|||Eyefinity and SLI have nothing to do with one another. Nvidia's cards can each run two monitors. ATI's can run three, provided at least one of the screens uses DisplayPort (and no, a DisplayPort to DVI adapter doesn't count). SLI, and ATI's answer which is called CrossFireX, allow you to combine multiple graphics cards and treat them like a single card. Normally, if you stick two graphics cards in a computer, you can only use one at a time.

As far as ATI vs Nvidia, that's more of a matter of taste. Nvidia is the clear winner in Linux support and Nvidia's General Purpose Graphics Programming drivers are way better than ATI's, but those don't effect the vast majority of people. In terms of gaming performance, they're about equal and ATI might even have a slight advantage.

Does anyone know of a motherboard, PC, or graphics card that will output SOUND through an HDMI connector?

I am looking to build/buy an entertainment PC that will be connected to my HD TV. I am trying to find a motherboard/graphics card/PC that will output both the video AND the sound through an HDMI cable to the TV.

My TV does have an analogue VGA and 3.5mm audio jack input for a PC, but I would rather directly connect the digital video and audio streams through the HDMI.

Surely there must be something that does this? I read about an old PowerColor graphics card that you connected the output from your sound card to, this then outputted both audio and video streams to HDMI. Unfortunately these cards appear to be no longer available.

An Ideal solution would be a motherboard that outputted both streams directly through the HDMI. Does such a beast exist?

Please Help.

Can I output WQHD (2560x1440) with my laptop/video card? Details inside.?

The computer has HDMI and USB 3.0, but does not have DisplayPort or DVI-D... is it possible to output WQHD through USB 3.0 --> DVI-D? or to forge an EDID and override HDMI's 1080p max by using an HDMI 1.4a cable?|||You should be able to output that resolution, the specs for your graphics card state a lower max resolution for HDMI but it also mentions while using 3D and such. the Nr. 13 foot note states that: "Some custom resolutions require user configuration".

you can find out by giving it a try, as long as you use a High Speed HDMI cable (manufacturers are no longer allowed to promote 1.3 and 1.4 and such) you should be good to go.

Force laptop's GeForce 240M to display on HDMI and VGA output?

I have Acer 5739G with 240M. It has HDMI output and VGA output. With everything plugged in Win 7 sees laptop screen, HDMI monitor, and VGA monitor. but I can't get HDMI and VGA to show at same time. Duplicate or extended. Is there mutliple monitor software that can do this? I know there is stuff to display extended on multiple screens with multiple computers or video cards. Does the video can itself have to support it?|||The GeForce 240M GPU is designed to support only the laptop LCD and one external display at the same time. If you use the HDMI, the VGA is disabled. If you use the VGA, the HDMI is disabled.

No single nVidia GPU can support three monitors until the Fermi-based cards come out in a few months.

There is absolutely NOTHING you can do to get your laptop to run three displays independently at the same time, without buying extra gear like Matrox's TripleHead2Go (which I think is a complete waste of money).

How do i make my laptop's video card output through the HDMI cable?

Pc no video output. not graphics card.?

Hi merry xmas.

my brothers acer pc has no video output via vga or hdmi (the machine turns on and all the correct lights are on/ fans spinning) I have taken the graphics card out of his pc and tried it in my pc (graphics card is fine) works fine in my pc.

I have tried another pc on his monitor and that works fine so i have ruled out:-

1/ the graphics card.

2/the monitor

3 the monitor vga cable.

I think his motherboard has gone?? but am no expert, any advice would be great.

thanks|||Try to install a different video card on his computer, then install the drivers for the card you want to install, then install the card you want to install.|||you may be correct, but a simple question do you have any speakers connected? You say the lights are all on does the hard drive attempt to run (so you would see the usual HD activity light flashing). If so then having speakers connected would give the Windows sound when the OS loads up giving a better indication if the mainboard is allowing the hardware to boot. Obviously sound would suggest the board is OK, the issue would then still most likely be VGA related, if the card works then perhaps it is the slot that has failed, I suppose you could still argue that the board has failed.|||Ok I like a challenge

If the card is working in your machine put it back in to your brothers. When you turn on the machine do you see the bios screen?

If no then your assumption could be right and the MB could be buggered.

If yes then it could be something as simple as your brother has set the screen resolution too high and thats why your not getting a display.

If you can see the bios, press F8 (usually) and boot the PC in to safe mode.

Once in safe mode adjust the screen resolution to 1024 * 768. Accept the settings and restart the machine. If this works Brill.

If this does not work, does the pc have on board graphics. Plug the monitor in to that and see if you get a display?

If you dont see the bios when you boot up, then your right to think your Motherboard is gone.

Check that one out. I just bought it for my computer at home. I have my computer hooked up to an HDTV using HDMI. The card uses the sound from your sound card or motherboard (depending on which you have) and sends it through the HDMI from your video card. It is actually pretty neat. This card replaced an NVidia Geforce 7600 GT that I had because it didn't have HDMI and wouldn't properly work with some apps. It did have HDTV built into it, but the output was svid to component or DVI. I like the new card I have now, but I have Windows Vista, and it actually lowered my video experience rating compared to my NVidia card. Still in my opinion the video looks much better on my HDTV. I had to set the sound options to actually get the sound to go through the video card, but it wasn't too difficult. Im glad you asked the question. I actually found your question when I was searching for yet another HDMI out video card that maybe has higher memory like DDR3 for a better rating on Vista, but this one suits me just fine. I got it on Black Friday from Circuit City for $55, but I see that the price has gone up on it a bit. All in all, the card that I linked to should do exactly what you want it to, and it is available in PCI-Express or AGP. Like I said, I am using it now, and I am quite happy with it. I guess if you like to play graphics-intense games on your PC, you may want something with more muscle, but for the stuff I do (watch movies, play games etc.) it works just fine.

HDMI video card display?

Quick noob question about a video card. I just installed a EVGA geForce 8800GTS into my system. Do I need to connect my monitor directly to the HDMI video outputs, or can I still get video from my motherboard. What video card supports audio through hdmi?

I have a few questions similar to the topic. So...

I want to get an Asus M4a79xtd EVO Mobo, but it doesn't have any outputs for the monitor so i'm guessing you have to get a video card to get an image on your monitor right?

If so i was wanting to get a video card that can play audio through the hdmi port because I'm using my TV as a monitor.

The cards I want to get...

-Asus ENGTX460 TOP (fermi) 768MB

-MSI R5770 Hawk 1gb

or

-XFX HD-577A-ZNFC Radeon 5770 (Juniper XT)

Which of these video cards are better?

Which of them can play audio through their HDMI Port?

And what is the feature called so I can figure this out on my own next time(ATI and nViDIA)?|||I can't tell you which is best, but I can say that pretty much any card with HDMI out will support audio.|||Audio output is part of the HDMI specification, so it doesn't really have a name as a feature because it is more a requirement than a feature.

Can someone recommend a video card? Need 3 display output.?

I need a PCI Express video card that can output to 3 displays simultaneously. My current card has 3 outputs but will only generate 2 video signals at once. The exact outputs don't matter, one will go to a 1080p TV, so hdmi would be good. The other 2 will go to monitors, so dvi would be preferred but VGA would work too.

My main priority is to be able to output 3 signals for as cheap as possible. Other stuff isn't as important, it's going in a 4 year old machine so performance isn't a huge priority, anything on the market now will exceed the other specs

Video Card HDMI Output with audio?

So I've been looking for a video card that outputs HDMI video with the audio also. And when I asked this question earlier today, two "top contributors" told me that there was no such thing. Here's the link to that question.

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/;_ylc=…

I've found the Palit Radeon HD 2600 Pro Sonic that claims to do exactly what I'm looking for. And it's only $70 from Tiger Direct. So I've ordered this card under the pretense that it will give me audio through the HDMI. Am I mistaken? Are the answers to my previous question correct, or are they just misinformed?|||im guessing any HDMI output has audio capabilities as standard, but ill stick with my audigy card for dedicated audio =)|||just because someone is a top contributor does not mean that they know everything.....

Suggestions for a cheap video card I can use to output 1080 x 1920 res. to an HDTV monitor via component out?

Hoping to stay in the $30-60 range if possible. Can be an AGP, PCI-express, or PCI card. Want to use our aging HDTV as a HTPC with a wireless keyboard and mouse and it only has component input for HD (no HDMI, no DVI, not even VGA) Thanks.|||**Update **

This 4650 has dual video outputs, and it's only $56

I don't know of any video cards with native component out, although DVI to component adapters are easy to find, some cards come with them. If you need to buy one separately, they're around $10.

I'd think something inexpensive like a Radeon HD4550 would work. Even an older HD2400 should be fine.

Can a laptop with 1366 x 768 resolution output 1080p video to HDTV via HDMI?

i have a windows 7 laptop with 1366 x 768 native resolution, and a nvidia g310m integrated graphics card. now the issue is that when i connect my TV via HDMI to my laptop, 720p fits the HDTV perfectly but 1080p doesnt fit at all! 1080 doesnt fit my TV screen and i dont know what to do!!

please help!|||Is your tv actually a 1080p tv? If so you may need to look at adjusting the screen a little in the tv menu, there are settings like overscan that can correct the issue. If not, then don't use the 1080p setting. But the screen resolution on your laptop has nothing to do with what it can output over hdmi, it should actually be able to output at least 2560x1600, thats pretty normal for a video card to be able to push.

Triple monitor setup with 1 video card and onboard video?

Is it possible to setup a system with 1 video card that has 2 DVI outputs and your motherboard's onboard video output of VGA and DVI?

Specifically my motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H (which has VGA, DVI and HDMI outputs) and I haven't decided on a video card yet.|||When you use video cards, onboard video will not work. The computer is outputting to one graphics card processer, that's ethier the onboard or your seprate video card. I did check your motherboard and it is not SLI or crossfire compatible. Although you may actually want to try hooking the 3 monitors directly to your computer. Via the HDMI, DVI, and VGA, it's always worth a shot.

P.S. another way to solve this is get a video card with the 2 connectors/outputs and then a usb to dvi dongle for documents, temps. etc. just don't play videos off it. Here's one...

Do Grahpics Cards With HDMI Output Sound Also?

I'm planning on getting a Sapphire Toxic HD 6950, it comes with HDMI which I will hook up to my HD TV. Will sound also come out or do I somehow have to get a soundcard and hook that up to my TV also. I know that with my Xbox 360 has HDMI and outputs sound and video.

P.S. Please don't recommend a different GPU unless it's really important.|||I know that HDMI supports sound as well as video because I was able to watch and hear a video from my MacBook using a DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapter. But... that's on a laptop with all the components integrated together.

On a desktop system, I believe that your video card would have to be able to accept a cable from your sound card so that it can mix in the audio data with the video signal.|||Yes, of course.|||Yes it has HDMI ports (believe all newest video cards have them)

What inexpensive used desktops will support a PCIe graphics card for HD video?

Looking for an inexpensive used desktop that has a PCI express slot and big enough power supply to support a decent graphics card with HDMI output, such as the ASUS nVidia GeForce 210 or similar. Using this for HD video mostly, no gaming.

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks|||Most desktops built within the last 3-4 years should be fine... something with at least a dual-core processor and 250W or higher power supply. Recent motherboards all have a PCI-E x16 slot, and that's enough for a Radeon HD 5450 (which is quite inexpensive, but a step above the GeForce 210 and Radeon HD 4350)

The biggest potential pitfall - many inexpensive desktops are slimline models, which can only accept low-profile graphics cards and often have weak power supplies (sometimes even below 200 watts). So look a regular tower instead.

With a 220-270 watt psu, you'll have no problems running a Radeon HD 5450.

http://www.techspot.com/review/244-ati-r…|||hi michael

to be honest mate your better off buying a "motherboard bundle" which comprises of a cpu, motherboard and memory.... and then all you need to do is use your existing hard drive, dvdrw drive, psu and case......this is a inexpensive way to bring a pc up to date and you can get some excellent bundles ... for example the "

Novatech Motherboard Bundle - Intel Pentium Dual Core E5800 - 2GB DDR2 800Mhz - Intel G41 Motherboard"( http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods… ) is just £104 and you get the excellent dual core E5800.... a g41 chipset motherboard with a pci-express x16 slot and 4 x sata ports... and 2gb of ddr2 memory running at 800mhz

another bundle worth considering is the "Novatech Motherboard Bundle - Intel Core Duo E6700 - 2GB DDR3 1333Mhz - Intel G41 Motherboard"( http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods… ) which has a E6700 cpu and also has a g41 motherboard..... but has 2gb of faster ddr3 memory clocked at 1333mhz

another option would be a "barebones bundle" which is a step up from a motherboard bundle and also has a case and a psu.... check the range at http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/bareb… note : all the bundles have a pci-express x16 slot and 4 x sata ports !

out of all these barebone bundles i recommend the "Novatech Barebone Bundle - AMD X2 255- 4GB DDR3 1333Mhz - Onboard NVIDIA 7025 Graphics - 4 Bay ATX Tower Case & PSU"( http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods… ) this is based around a AMD dual core cpu ( x2 255 ) and a nvidia 7025 motherboard however theres 4gb of ddr3 memory clocked at 1333mhz which makes this bundle a powerful set up ..... add your existing hard drive and dvdrw.. and then your choice of graphic card ( i recommend the HD5670.... avalible for just £59 from http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods…

so basically the above barebone bundle for £150... and the HD5670 for £59 means you will have a powerful pc with a decent graphic card that has a HDMI and DVI output.... all for under £220 !

i hope this helps michael... however any questions let me know

good luck mate !

Why doesn't my new graphics card output video?

I just built a new computer and have a 2gig graphics card. I believe it's the Radeon 6950 HD model. I have been using an HDTV as my monitor for the last couple of weeks until I got a regular monitor for Xmas. I had an hdmi cable from my motherboard slot plugged into the tv. Well now this monitor I got doesn't have hdmi so I have to use either VGA or DVI. I plugged dvi into my graphics card slot as my motherboard doesn't have dvi option and the monitor just says no signal input, going to sleep. I have no clue what is going on. I installed the drivers that came with the monitor and got nothing. My graphics card drivers are also up to date. Please don't tell me that my graphics card is bad because that is not the case. It's brand new and runs video games just fine. It's just the video output seems to be disabled or something. Thanks in advance for any help|||The monitor may have a switch for choosing what input to use. Push it and select the DVI input.

Go into CMOS and check if there's a setting to choose between onboard video or video from an add on card. If your computer is set to use onboard video this may explain what you're seeing.

If your card requires an auxiliary power input verify this cable is plugged in and verify your power supply is big enough to supply the card.

Does my Video Card on my laptop support digital signal output?

I want to buy a vga to hdmi cable so i can hook up my laptop to my hdtv. The laptop has the VGA output whilst the tv has the HDMI output. I found a cable on eBay which can connect both together however one thing the seller told me to note was...

"Your Video card must support digital signal output through VGA port function"

I found out what my video card is: ATI Radeon Xpress 200M, and so tried to do some research into whether it supports digital signal output but am unable to identify whether it does or doesnt.

Please can someone help me find out?

I have fouund this webpage which has info about the card but still couldnt figure it out

http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Radeon-Xpress-200M.2175.0.html|||Even if you got a convertor cable; it will still be in VGA format, not HDMI.

If you don't have a DVI/HDMI port on your laptop - you can only use the VGA output to display content on a TV etc - and only then, just the image.

DVI/HDMI supports both audio/video on the same cable; looks like you might have to update your laptop.

Graphics Card: HDMI Input Vs. HDMI Output.?

Hey i was wondering if someone could explain this to me. The ATI card i am looking at has an HDMI slot, but it says it's an HDMI Output. I know some Video Cards have HDMI Input, what is the difference between the two?

Reason I am asking is because i have an HP 22 inch Monitor and it has HDMI, i wanna make sure i can connect a cable from the video card to my PC HP Monitor. I can also do Dvi to VGA (which im doing now), but obviously HDMI is better! lol if you can help me out i would greatly appreciate it, thank you.|||HDMI INPUT is actually very rare. Cards that support this are used for video capture and editing. Most cards with an HDMI slot are OUTPUT. OUTput takes a signal from your video card and sends it out ot the monitor. INput accepts a video signal from an external source and captures it with your video card. Since you want output, your fine and you can use this card to connect to your monitor via HDMI.|||You want to connect your HDMI monitor with a HDMI cable to the HDMI output from the video card.

It sounds like the card you are looking at may have a TV input on it.

How does my Video card and Mobo HDMI jack interact?

I am considering a Motheboard with HDMI output and 5.1 audio output. MSI Z68A-GD65 (G3)

People here seem to like a Nvidia GTX 460 graphics card which only has DVI outputs.

If I hook my monitor up with HDMI from the motherboard - the Nvida card is not being used - right? Or does it route video from the Nvidia card to the HDMI jack?

If I hook my monitor up with DVI on the Nvidia card - this should give me the faster graphics and better video watching and the HDMI jack is ... unused and should be disabled to avoid conflicts?

I am guessing I should avoid a Mobo with HDMI since I plan to use a video card. Or how do these interact?|||The onboard video and a dedicated video card will have nothing to do with each other. You can use the video onboard or you could use the dedicated card. You can't use both together like that. You can also easily find a GTX 460 with an HDMI jack. You do realize that there are many makes and models of this card, right?

Furthermore, if you're buying a GTX 460 and you just want to watch videos with it then you're pissing a lot of money away. A Radeon 6570 with an HDMI jack could do that.|||If you are considering purchasing a GTX460 onboard video isn't needed. It would only be there as a "spare" in case the GTX460 died. A motherboard with onboard HDMI will have less "perks".

You can simply use the DVI to HDMI adapter that comes with the GTX460.

Onboard HDMI and the video card don't interact two seperate pieces of hardware.|||Yes, the hdmi on the motherboard will be disabled and wont even show up as a device. If you still want an hdmi output buy an adapter like this one

Can someone recommend a good PCI Video card that has an HDMI output? Not PCI-E?

I'd like to be able to play 1080P videos so I need at least 512 memory, unfortunately I only have PCI slots. For sure need HDMI output for HDTV.

Thanks|||I've bought video cards and such off Newegg. Here is a link for PCI cards:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis…

Nice thing about a site like this is that they have a rating from other people so you can get an idea of how the cards perform from other people that have bought them. The first thing you want to do when installing or upgrading a video card is to make sure you have an adequate power supply. One with enough wattage. Most of the older computers came with pretty weak power supplies. I had a HP Pentium 3 years ago and I put a PCI card in it. Wasn't even that powerful a card. But the computer started shutting off. Turns out the power supply that came with the computer wasn't powerful enough to run with a graphics card in it. I put a more powerful power supply in with more wattage and it was fine after that.|||It is fairly easy to find a cable on Ebay that has DVI and audio connectors on one end and HDMI on the other. This means any 512mb video card with a DVI output ( I'm probably sure you could find a cable with a VGA 15 pin connector instead) can be used in conjunction with the standard audio output of the computer to hook directly into the HDMI port of your HDTV. As far as 512 cards for PCI, they are out there. I found several on Ebay. Several from different vendors on a Google search. Should be do-able for most novice techies anyhow. Hope this eases the task a little.

In a video card, can one seperate the hdmi and dvi outputs?

It all depends whether your video card is meant to be able to drive two monitors simultaneously or not. Many modern cards do this. If this is the case there will be at least two video outputs at the back of the card. It is not possible to convert a VGA output into HDMI or DVI. It is possible to convert a DVI output into HDMI (DVI to HDMI cables are available).

I just ordered a new Video card with a DVI-I output, and bought a DVI-D cable for it....Will this still work ?

I've read that DVI-(Integrated) passes both Analog and Digital signals (hence the higher pin count)

And that DVI-D (Digital) strictly passes Digital signals....hence the lower pin count.

Since it's a DVI-D to HDMI connection, I'd only need the digital signals anyways, right ?

So my question....A DVI-I output should work with a DVI-D to HDMI cable, right ?

Thanks!|||Yes, it will work.

My computer's DVI output is DVI-I. My HDTV's input is HDMI. Works perfectly with a DVI-to-HDMI cable: http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f347/a…|||Yes, a DVI-I jack will accept a DVI-A, DVI-D, or DVI-I plug. DVI-D will suffice for a DVI-to-HDMI connection.|||Your question is way too vague!!!

Are you trying to connect to a TV with HDMI, or a DVI LCD Monitor, OR something else?

Please re-post and tell us the make and model of your graphics card and your LCD Monitor OR your TV OR the "something else".

Then, maybe we can help.

I'm looking to upgrade my nVidia 8600GT, but maintain HDMI audio/video output.?

DVI is the abbreviation of Digital Visual Interface, while HDMI stands for High Definition Multimedia Interface. DVI and HDMI are more similar than different. There are a very few differences between them. DVI is an interface, which is used for providing high quality image. In DVI, the pixels are transmitted as binary data, and the brightness is set accordingly. Since the quality provided by HDMI is good, many people opt HDMI over S Video, SCART, D Terminal and many more. The signals for HDMI and DVI are compatible with each other, hence no signal conversion is required when using a DVI adapter for HDMI, and vice versa; also there is no loss of data when a DVI adapter is used for HDMI or vice versa. HDMI is said to be a successor of DVI, hence HDMI is better than DVI in many aspects, like the transfer rate of HDMI is more than DVI. Both DVI and HDMI transfer signals, use separate red, green and blue components and the components are transferred through different data channels. HDMI is derived from the protocol used by DVI, hence the working and encoding scheme for both the technologies are same.

source: buzzle.com|||DVI and HDMI will display the EXACT same video format (Full 1080p HD). The main difference is that HDMI can also transmit HD audio through the same cable, If you are using the LCD for video ONLY then DVI and HDMI would be identical at the moment.

I hope this is enough information. The reason I ask this question is because I purchased a VGA to HDMI cable to connect my notebook to my HDTV and I have been unable to do so. My notebook says that an external display is connected, but there's no picture on my tv. Therefore, I'm wondering if my video card is unable to output a picture through the VGA port on my computer.

Level of video card required for HDMI output to LCD TV?

I know this question has been asked in various forms but I need to pose it more specifically for my use. I already output to my LCD TV with no problem. I'm putting together a HTPC. As far as video I want the best chance of watching online TV such as HULU in flawless fullscreen (as Possible) and other HD streaming video from say Quicktime. I know 3d specs are not important but what is? GPU? Memory? What specs are most important for what I want to do with the card. I would spend $200.00 if it improves quality but it seems you're spending more money for 3D performance not 2D i.E. online video. Am I correct in saying most current HD cards are about the same for my uses?

Thanks,

Mike|||You are right. For your specific application, you just need a video card with excellent HD decode capability and with built-in HDMI port. Cheap graphics cards like these w/ HDMI port would do the job:

Why does a mixer show "HDA ATI HDMI" if the ATI card in question has only VGA, DVI, and S-Video outputs?

I recently installed an ATI HD 4350 video card in my computer, and it seems to work well; however, I don't understand why my computer's audio mixer has anything to say about it whatsoever since it has a DVI output rather than an HDMI output.

Any answers or comments of even the slightest meaningful relevance are welcome.|||The card has the audio hardware on it but you use a pass-through to output the audio through your motherboards spdif port.

Don't concern yourself with it unless you require using the hdmi audio.

How can I hook up two HDMI monitors? Why are there no video cards with two HDMI ports?

Would I need to get two videocards with one single HDMI output? or can I just use a DVI to HDMI crossover cable and that will just work with no special configuration?

This is assuming that I have a video card with one HDMI output and one DVI output.

What exactly is eyeinfinity and what does it have to do with multiple monitors?|||The reason why video cards with HDMI have one DVI port and one HDMI port is because HDMI is actually limited in resolution-- HDMI is single-link DVI video, which goes up to only 1920x1200 resolution.

The DVI port on the video card would usually be a dual-link DVI port, which can go up to 2560x1600 resolution.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a video card with just two HDMI ports and nothing else.. I like having at least one port capable of resolutions higher than 1920x1200.

HDMI is single-link DVI only because high-definition media like broadcast HD television programming and Blu-Ray discs top out at 1080p (that's 1920x1080 resolution).|||Two video cards is the only way to go right now.

HDMI video card doesnt output HDMI signal to monitor?

Ok so I just bought a new tv and a new video card. I installed the video card, connected the card to the tv using hdmi, and turned on the computer. Computer booted up fine, let me know there was a new video card and that I needed new drivers. I could see everything fine from my computer, just had the wrong resolution for the tv due to not having the drivers installed. So I went to ATI's website and downloaded the appropriate drivers for my card. It went through the whole install and said everything was installed fine and needed to reboot for changes to take effect. So I clicked "OK" and it rebooted. When the computer restarted, I could see the initial start up screen and all that including the windows logo right before the logon screen. Right when the log on scree was about to show, the monitor said "No Signal" and turned blue. I knew from just always being on how to log on to my name without seeing it. So I did that, and heard the start up sound (when it shows the desktop after a restart), but still no image on the screen. Any ideas how to fix this? It worked without the drivers, as I said before, but wasn't the right resolution, so didn't look right.

I also have a DV-I port on the card and using a dv-i - HDMI adapter, I tried to connect the TV through there and that was a no go as well. I also tried renaming the HDMI-1 channel to "PC" which people said to try, and that didn't work either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

And please don't tell me my TV or card is shot because they both work up to the log on screen. And the TV works fine with my XBox hooked up to the same HDMI port running 1080P.

Here's the info about the card and TV:

Card: ATI VisionTek HD4350 512MB DDR2 memory

TV: Philips 32PFL6704D/F7 32" 120HZ Full 1080P

Oh also, when I hook up the HDMI from my computer to another HDMI port on my TV (HDMI 2/3/4) or back to the original, it makes that weird noise like when you plug in a USB device or memory card, and then makes the other noise about 2 seconds later as if I disconnected whatever was plugged in. I can't see my desktop, so I don't know what it's saying or doing.|||I've seen this before on several systems that I've built. It is usually the resolution or refresh rate set too high for the TV to handle. Remember, that TV is not a computer monitor. Computer monitors have a signal they send to the computer, letting it know what its limits are. Your TV might or might not play well with a computer (reporting to the computer its resolution and refresh rate limits).

Boot into safe mode:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windo…

...then set the resolution and refresh rate below what you know your TV should display. For most TV's that are at least 720i HD resolution, set it to 1280 x 720, 60 HZ vertical refresh rate (found in the "advanced" section of the resolution settings). Once you do this, reboot the computer, it should work just fine after that. Once you get booted into Windows, you can then set the resolution for the maximum your TV can handle. For full 1080p HD TV's, the resolution is 1920 X 1080, at 59 or 60 Hz refresh rate.

You should also find out if the TV manufacturer has put out a Windows7 driver for that TV.
