Can Video Cards Output Sound?

i am going to buy a new pc. i have a TV with a hdmi port on it and a spare hdmi cable.

on the back of the video card there is a hdmi port.



If i connected that to the hdmi port on the tv will th sound output through the tv speakers or will i need to buy some speakers.

although to be sure, given a specific model you can check that the manufacturers website.

If the card does output sound then your TV will play the sound from its speakers.



p.s.

if you are using a DVI-HDMI plug then there will be no sound.
