Say I get a Nvidia GeForce GTX video card that supports HDMI. I know video will come through beautifully, but what about audio? Does the video card take HD audio and output that? or does it use a simple format of audio and send that to my monitor? OR you could just tell me how it all works and make life simple for me ^.^|||HDMI is the same as DVI, just different plug and socket and HDMI has sound.
all HDMI video cards should have 7.1 surround through HDMI if im not mistaken.|||Well i know my Radeon 5450 has HDMI and it is part soundcard (for the HDMI), so look it up, see if it supports sound or not|||you can only get audio from the hdmi if your monitor has speakers in it.
you simply go into control panel, sound, and double click on the nvidea hdmi option. if you dont just plug your speakers into the onboard sound as normal (the default ouput) and it will come out of your speakers.
also to the guy above me HDMI and DVI are very different.
HDMI was designed to replace the scart socket. it has the ability to transfor 7.1 sound AND any resolution of picture/video up to 1920 x 1200 pixels.
DVI on the other hand is a port designed for high quality images. it does not have the ability to carry sound but can carry info for video/pictures of any res up to 2560 x 1600 pixels
